Writer and Illustrator

 
 
WRITER AND ILLUSTRATOR is the quarterly journal of AWlC. With its focus on children's books in India, it publishes research-based articles, profiles of Indian writers, illustrators and storytellers and their works. It carries stories in Hindi and English that have won AWIC awards or have been prepared during an AWIC Writers' Workshop. It carries book reviews for newly published books in any of 16 Indian languages and in English. Often, books of other foreign languages are also reviewed. Special issues of WRITER AND ILLUSTRATOR have included Panchatantra and Hans Christian Andersen award nominees from India.

This is a booklet prepared for libraries and indivibuals containing a comprehensive list of the best books available in India for children. The list contains books published by leading Indian publishers in both Hindi and English.

First published in 1993, this multicoloured illustrated Hindi dictionary for children is the first of its kind in India. This dictionary is useful for children aged 6-9 years. Its impressive layout over 327 pages includes 1750 words and 1000 illustrations that make it a veritable treasury.

Once Upon A Time in India

 
A collection of fascinating folk tales from India. These tales are an integral part of the country's culture, having evolved over centuries via the oral tradition of story telling. They contain the wisdom of the simple village folk as well as universal values handed down by thinkers and sages of ancient India. This story collection reflects the lives and philosophies of the different regions of a culturally rich and diverse land.

Alphabet Books

 
The Hindi alphabet book, a part of the AWIC Literacy Project, was released by former President of India, Shri R.V. Venkataraman, during the 26th IBBY Congress in New Delhi in 1998. Its endearing rhymes, word games and profuse illustrations make it an important initial step towards learning. Other alphabet books for English, Tamil, Urdu, Oriya, Bengla, Gujarati and Telugu also form part of this project.

Proceedings - Peace Through Children's Books

 
The eventful 26th IBBY Congress (20-24 September, 1998, New Delhi, India) comes alive once again through the 500 pages of Proceedings. This impressive report presents in full details the daily programmes. It reproduces papers of the Plenary session and Seminar session and provides glimpses of the Congress through photographs and reports. For those who were part of this Congress, as also for those who could not attend the proceedings, this is a valuable and comprehensive record.
